I’ve been grieved to read that at least two megachurches in the U.S. decided to meet last Sunday against the recommendations or orders of their governors. Combined, over a thousand people put themselves and others at risk. One was arrested. I believe they are claiming their First Amendment right to practice their religion and their Constitutional freedom to assemble, but even if they do have these rights, for the sake of loving others they do not have to exercise all their rights. Jesus did not exercise all His rights when He was on earth. He is our example. Sometimes we have to lay down our rights for the sake of others.

I think this is one of those times. It’s not my job to judge the servants of Another, but I hope pastors will consider this when they decide to disobey the civil authorities who are doing the best they know how to help us defeat the virus and protect the citizens they govern.
