One of the advantages of homeschooling is that the subjects can be integrated into Unit Studies. As you have said, one can use math and English skills while studying almost any subject. One can write about history, science, and even cooking. Granted, unit studies aren’t as easy to teach to a test, and that testing is what often drives the system to teach subject by subject. Students will best remember what they study in depth and explore with a variety of activities. Unit studies also help students see how subjects are related to each other and real life. Unit studies could easily be incorporated into schools if administrators weren’t so fixated on universal requirements making one set of standards fit all students.
