These are all great tips, and I’ve learned after years of reading your Hubs that your advice is always good. Some of your tips have always been part of my writing routine, such as proofreading to myself orally.

I have always preferred to write for readers rather than for Google. When I blog I feel a bit stifled because I can almost hear Yoast whispering in my ear. Did I put keywords in all the suggested places? Did I use passive voice too much? Do three or more sentences in a row use the same beginning word? Is my title too long for Google to display?

Overall Yoast has helped me improve my writing style, but one set of rules doesn’t fit every post or article. Very often catchy titles don’t use a keyword but I want to use one anyway. Sometimes I do use the same word to start each line of an bullet list. I like the consistency, but Yoast doesn’t. And God help me if I have 309 words under a single heading.
