We moved from Southern California to fourteen acres near the Central Coast city of Paso Robles in 1991. At first it was exciting to watch the wildlife, especially those deer.
Then we planted a garden and our opinion rapidly changed. We, too, had to build fences to protect our garden and orchard. We frequently pass dead deer and other roadkill in our drive to the post office or market. So far I've learned here the deer usually hang out and slow down on the stretch of road closest to it at and after dusk.
